How to create a successful Google Ads campaign for your business

Google Ads has become an increasingly popular way to advertise businesses online since its launch in 2000.

When compared to other search engine advertising platforms like Bing and Yahoo!, Google Ads offers a few key advantages that many business owners choose to take advantage of, such as cost-per-click (CPC) bidding, keyword matching and more.

For any small business owner looking to get started with Google Ads, here are five tips on how to create a successful Google Ads campaign for your business.

What is a Google ads campaign?

A Google Ads campaign is a way to create and manage the ads that appear on your business's Google search results page. These ads can be text, image, or video ads—or any combination of the three.

You can create and target different types of campaigns depending on your business goals, and you can choose from several different campaign types:

  • Search Network only: The search network includes all of the searches that happen on Google, including those from mobile devices as well as desktop computers.
  • Display Network only: The display network includes all of the websites and apps that use AdSense for search to place ads based on their content. For example, if you've ever seen an ad for shoes on a website about gardening tools, that was because the gardening site was using AdSense for search to place ads based on its content.
  • Both networks: This option allows you to show your ads both in search results and on websites or apps that are part of the display network (but not both at once).

You can also use Google Ads campaigns as a way to advertise your business on Google Search and YouTube. For example, if you're a local business that sells car parts, you could set up an ad with the keyword "car parts" so that people who search for "car parts" will see your ad when they do a search.

You can create a Google Ads campaign to run on a single device or across multiple devices, such as PCs, smartphones, and tablets. You can also target your ads to specific groups of people based on their interests or locations, or even change some of your settings so that they're always running.

5 Reasons Why You Should Be Advertising Your Business on Google

Step 1: Identify your target audience

Before you can create a successful Google Ads campaign, you need to identify your target audience. Consider who you want to reach with your ads, and what needs or pain points they have that your product or service can address. Once you have a good understanding of your target audience, you can move on to creating your campaign.

Step 2: Choose an advertising objective

Now that you know the ins and outs of Google Ads, it's time to create your first campaign. But before you start building your ad, you need to choose an advertising objective. This will help determine what kind of ad you create, where it's placed, and how it's structured.

For example, if you're looking to increase awareness of your brand or product (called awareness campaigns), consider using a keyword-targeted ad that appears on the search engine results page (SERP). If you want people to take some sort of action (called conversion campaigns), use text ads or Google AdWords Express which appear on partner sites in mobile apps.

Step 3: Decide how much you are willing to spend

Determining your budget is an important step in creating your Google Ads campaign. You don’t want to overspend and put yourself in a difficult financial position, but you also don’t want to underspend and miss out on potential customers.

Figure out what you are comfortable spending and then set a budget for your campaign. Next, you will need to choose the right keywords for your business. Keywords are the words or phrases that people type into the search engine when they are looking for something like yours.

In order to find appropriate keywords, look at what people are searching online and see if any of those words or phrases would apply to your product or service. Keep track of them because they will be important later on in the process.

Step 4: Create and optimise your landing page

Creating a well-optimised landing page is key to success with Google Ads. A good landing page will be relevant to your ad, and make it easy for users to take the action you want them to (such as buying a product, signing up for a newsletter, etc.).

Here are some tips for creating a successful landing page:

  1. Make sure that your landing page is relevant to the ad that brought visitors there
  2. Keep the layout simple
  3. Use high quality images
  4. Include social proof on the page, such as testimonials or reviews from satisfied customers
  5. Write persuasive copy
  6. Incentivise people to act by providing a limited time offer or other reason for people to take action now. If you don't include an incentive, don't expect much of anything from your landing page!

Step 5: Measure the performance of each campaign

You've created your first Google Ads campaign and are now ready to measure its performance. Here are five key metrics you should track:

  • Click-through rate (CTR): This measures how often people who see your ad end up clicking it. A high CTR is a good sign that your ad is relevant and compelling. Low CTRs can be caused by irrelevant ads, bad copywriting, or poor targeting. The formula for calculating your click-through rate is the number of clicks divided by the number of impressions multiplied by 100%.
