ABOUT  WILL  JAMES
Born in Canada, Ernest DuFault left home and family at age 15 and travelled west to find his dream. He became the American cowboy, Will James. Starting at the bottom, he worked and became a top hand. Handling rough horses occupied his days and became the basis for many of his books.

His talent for drawing and writing, coupled with injuries from too many rough horses, soon led him from the working cowboy life to that of a full time artist and author. In all, 24 books of Will James' self-illustrated stories were published. Three of them became major motion pictures. His best know story, Smoky the Cowhorse, won the 1927 Newbery Award and was made into a movie three times.

His words and pictures touched the hearts and minds of youths and adults alike. His life and stories prompted many young men to follow their own dreams in the great American West.
